Since 2019, Green Crescent Zimbabwe has been a member of IFGC.The organization was initially chaired by Dr. Cherifa Sururu, who passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19. In 2022, Elizabeth Chipendo was appointed as the President. Green Crescent Zimbabwe is a member of VNGOC and has played a key role in supporting the establishment of four new Country Green Crescent organizations in Rwanda, Malawi, Botswana, and Zambia by serving as a reference. In 2022, the organization submitted its application for ECOSOC consultative status, which was successfully granted in 2023. Green Crescent Zimbabwe focuses on the prevention of addiction, including drug, alcohol, and related forms of addiction, through community-based initiatives, advocacy, and international cooperation.

The organization was founded on 5 March 1920 in Istanbul under the name Hilal-i Ahdar, with the permission of Sultan Vahdeddin and the patronage of Sheikh al-Islam İbrahim Haydarizade, by Dr. Mazhar Osman and his colleagues, in response to the spread of alcohol and drugs during and after the First World War.Over time, the organization adopted the name Yeşilay (Green Crescent) and was granted Public Benefit Association status by a Council of Ministers decision in 1934. Today, Yeşilay works in the fields of prevention, awareness, advocacy, and rehabilitation, addressing addiction related to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, gambling, and technology.
