Sri Lanka (officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka) is an island country located in South Asia, in the Indian Ocean, southeast of India. Its capital city is Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, while Colombo is the commercial capital. Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948 and is a member of the United Nations. The country is known for its rich cultural heritage, biodiversity, and strategic maritime location. Sri Lanka’s economy is based on services, manufacturing, and agriculture, and it actively engages with international and regional institutions to promote sustainable development and social well-being.
South Asia is a region of Asia known for its dense population, ancient civilizations, and cultural diversity, and it plays an important role in regional and global social, economic, and political dynamics.
Green Crescent Foundation Sri Lanka is a civil society organization based in Sri Lanka, with its headquarters located at No. 9, Lillie Street, Colombo 02, Sri Lanka. The organization signed its Goodwill Agreement in 2019 and completed its official establishment in 2018. It has been a member of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (IFGC) since 2020 and was elected to the IFGC High Advisory Council in 2025. The organization is chaired by Mukthar Marikkar.
