Maldives is a small island nation located in the Indian Ocean in South Asia, southwest of Sri Lanka and India. It consists of 26 natural atolls made up of nearly 1,200 coral islands, making it one of the world’s lowest-lying countries. The capital city is Malé. The Maldives became an independent state in 1965 and is a member of the United Nations. Its economy is primarily based on tourism, fisheries, and related services, and the country places strong emphasis on environmental protection and sustainable development due to its vulnerability to climate change.

Maldives Green Crescent is a civil society organization based in the Maldives, with its headquarters located at 4A, Rainforest, Hulhumalé, Maldives. The organization completed its official establishment in 2019 and has been a member of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (IFGC) since the same year. The Goodwill Agreement signing process with Maldives Green Crescent was conducted digitally in 2020. The organization is chaired by Ali Nazeer, who also serves as the main contact person. Maldives Green Crescent focuses on prevention, awareness-raising, and community-based activities addressing drug, alcohol, and other forms of addiction, with the aim of promoting public health and social well-being.
