Green Crescent (Yeşilay) is a public-benefit non-governmental organization based in Türkiye, with its headquarters located at Sepetçiler Kasrı, Kennedy Avenue No: 3, Sarayburnu, 34110, Fatih, Istanbul. The organization was founded on 5 March 1920 in Istanbul under the name Hilal-i Ahdar, with the permission of Sultan Vahdeddin and the patronage of Sheikh al-Islam İbrahim Haydarizade, by Dr. Mazhar Osman and his colleagues, in response to the spread of alcohol and drugs during and after the First World War.Over time, the organization adopted the name Yeşilay (Green Crescent) and was granted Public Benefit Association status by a Council of Ministers decision in 1934. Today, Yeşilay works in the fields of prevention, awareness, advocacy, and rehabilitation, addressing addiction related to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, gambling, and technology. The President of Yeşilay is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dinç.
