The International Federation of Green Crescent (IFGC), established under the leadership of Turkish Green Crescent as an umbrella organization for Country Green Crescents, aims to develop global partnerships and foster collaborative efforts on addiction prevention at a global level.

International Federation of Green Crescent (IFGC)

Established on November 7, 2016, in Istanbul, the International Federation of Green Crescent draws its conceptual framework from Turkish Green Crescent, the oldest and most established organization in the field of addiction prevention. Turkish Green Crescent aims to play a more active role in international platforms; to become a model organization in preventing addiction to tobacco (cigarettes), alcohol, drugs, technology and gambling; and to transfer centuries-old experience in addiction prevention to other countries to support their efforts in preventing the prevalent type of addiction in each country.

In line with this goal, Turkish Green Crescent has accelerated its efforts in international organizational activities in recent years and initiated the establishment of Country Green Crescents in many countries. Currently, Country Green Crescents operate in 97 countries, established as independent associations in their respective countries, separate from Turkish Green Crescent. These associations continue their work as members of IFGC.

IFGC members engage in advocacy efforts both nationally and regionally, as well as globally, to improve public health. They also develop active collaborations in various areas such as social awareness, education, project management, addiction prevention, intervention and rehabilitation with different social groups, NGOs, government agencies, national and international organizations.

The International Federation of Green Crescent supports Country Green Crescents in various thematic areas to ensure their organizational development and enable them to carry out effective activities against addiction risks in their countries. This support focuses on areas such as official establishment processes and organizational development, project and program management, education management, international memberships and collaborations, advocacy, communication and campaign management.

In addition, IFGC supports and encourages the active representation of Country Green Crescents in international forums and events organized by the United Nations and various international institutions and organizations.

As of 2023, including Turkish Green Crescent, a total of 47 Country Green Crescents are members of the Vienna NGO Committee on Drugs (VNGOC). Moreover, since 2013, a total of 25 Country Green Crescents, starting with Turkish Green Crescent, have been granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Since 2016, Country Green Crescents have organized and participated as event partners in side-events during the annual Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) meetings convened by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). To date, Country Green Crescents have organized 57 side-events at these meetings.
