5th Istanbul Initiative Summit Brought Together Leading Names on Addiction and Public Health

Istanbul Initiative is a global network of NGOs dedicated to advocating for prevention and recovery efforts. Launched with its first summit in 2019, the initiative focuses on preventing addictions and developing sustainable public health policies. The 5th Istanbul Initiative Summit was held on October 8-9, 2024, ahead of World Mental Health Day. This two-day hybrid event was held at the headquarters of the Turkish Green Crescent Society, with more than 50 participants from over 30 countries. During the 5th Istanbul Initiative Meeting, Country Green Crescents also participated and shared their knowledge and experiences in the field of addiction from Jordan, Albania, Somalia, and Ethiopia, South Africa, and Nigeria. Representatives from various countries delivered impactful presentations on addiction prevention strategies and successful practices. The event concluded with closing speeches from Türkiye's Minister of Family and Social Services, Ms. Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, and the Deputy President of the Turkish Green Crescent Society, Ms. Sümeyye Ceylan. With its commitment to collaboration and innovative approaches, the Istanbul Initiative remains a key platform for advancing efforts in addiction prevention and public health worldwide.

Corporate development is a systematic approach aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and performance of an organization. The International Federation of Green Crescent (IFGC) prioritizes strengthening the corporate development of its member Country Green Crescents to enable them to conduct more effective activities in the field of addiction prevention and advocacy.

Corporate development involves designing organizational structures to promote efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation, identifying core competencies, streamlining processes, and building a more effective organizational framework. Organizations focusing on institutional development seize the opportunity to improve processes such as decision-making, problem-solving, and communication. Additionally, they contribute to enhancing employees' skills and knowledge, increasing employee engagement and boosting productivity.

The IFGC prioritizes strengthening the corporate development of its member Country Green Crescents to enable them to conduct more effective activities in the field of addiction prevention and advocacy. To achieve this goal, the IFGC provides various forms of support to the Green Crescents in terms of corporate development. These activities include:

 

  • Providing roadmaps and guidelines for the corporate development journey of Country Green Crescents.
  • Offering training and development programs on corporate development topics.
  • Regularly sharing various research and data on addiction.
  • Facilitating connections between Country Green Crescents and potential stakeholders.
  • Providing support for corporate development projects.
  • Establishing communication platforms for experience sharing and mutual learning.

By supporting Country Green Crescents in corporate development, the IFGC helps them grow and succeed. This contributes to increased awareness of the organization and its funding, as well as strengthening advocacy capacity.

International Federation of Green Crescent’s (IFGC) Corporate Development Supports

The activities carried out by the International Federation of Green Crescent (IFGC) to support the corporate development of Country Green Crescents are as follows:

Establishment and Management Processes:

The IFGC supports the effective establishment and management of Country Green Crescents. It provides guidance and training programs on governance and management issues during the establishment process. It also provides the necessary guidance and resources for newly established Country Green Crescents to strengthen their administrative structures and adopt an effective management system. Additionally, it encourages experience sharing on management tools and strategies to help Country Green Crescents optimize their internal processes. The support for establishment and management aims to strengthen the IFGC's efforts towards sustainable growth and effective management of Country Green Crescents.

Training Management:

The IFGC offers training and development programs on corporate development topics. These training programs help Country Green Crescents enhance their competencies in successfully implementing corporate development projects. Through regular capacity building programs, Country Green Crescents enhance their corporate capacities by acquiring tools and methods to strengthen their capacities. Additionally, new Country Green Crescents receive regular operational support and supervision. 

Project Management:

The IFGC provides guidance and support for various corporate development and fundraising projects. It regularly informs Country Green Crescents about national and international project opportunities and encourages project applications. This helps Country Green Crescents avoid costly mistakes and ensures the success of their projects.

Collaborations and Advocacy:

The IFGC supports Country Green Crescents in establishing connections with national and international potential stakeholders. It regularly informs its members about international memberships and collaboration platforms and provides support in membership processes and advocacy efforts. Through these collaborations, Country Green Crescents gain access to the resources they need to grow and succeed.

Communication and Campaign Management:

The IFGC conducts communication and visibility activities to increase public awareness of addiction prevention. It organizes various social events and campaigns. It also manages the infrastructure, content, material processes, and communication activities required for Country Green Crescents to participate in these awareness campaigns and activities. It publishes the local activities and projects of Country Green Crescents on its website and social media accounts.

Volunteer Management

The IFGC provides various forms of support to help Country Green Crescents enhance their capacities in volunteer management and effectively manage volunteer programs. The Federation provides training and guidance services on volunteer management to Country Green Crescents. Through seminars, workshops and online resources, it hosts activities aimed at developing competencies in volunteer management. The IFGC creates platforms for successful volunteer programs and encourages experience sharing among its members. 

Scientific and Academic Studies

The IFGC shares research and data on global field research, projects and best practices in addiction-related research conducted by various institutions and organizations with Country Green Crescents. This information helps Country Green Crescents identify new opportunities for growth and develop strategies to achieve their advocacy goals.

Capacity Building Summit:

The IFGC has designed a Capacity Building Webinar Series consisting of eight programs titled "Establishment and Management Processes, Training Management, Project and Fund Management, International Memberships and Advocacy, Communication and Campaign Management, Volunteer Management, Scientific and Academic Studies and Capacity Building Summit" to support the development of Country Green Crescents in scientific, academic and advocacy fields, increase the visibility of their national, regional, and international activities, and enhance their vision. The Capacity Building Summit is the final program of this series.
